Canadian National Exhibition

1) Come into work VIA Food building off the GO-Train or the TTC
2) Most of the work is on the computer such as the forms and historical employee records. 
3) Payroll sheet is cacluated before hand so there is not much calculating involved.
4) All forms are done electronically and printed out. 
5) Tax forms are well supplied and on hand if needed. 
6) When Rehires come in the following takes action:
           1. Find rehires on the historical records on the computer 
           2. Confirm they are eligible for rehire if not then must confirm with last year supervisors and managers. 
           3. Confirm details such as name, address, phone number
           4. Input payroll information 
           5. Print out the contract and get them to sign the necessary amount of copies, all based off which job they are applying for.
           6. When handed in instruct them on the tax forms and how to fill it out
           7. Make the name tags
           8. Inquire about direct deposit, then send to Scheduling Department

For New Applicants

1) Process the forms, and resume
2) Contact successful applicants
3) Schedule the interview in time slots, maxiumum 8 in one time slot
4) During interview ask questions and host the interview
5) Make the final decision on who are the successful applicants and thank others for their time.
6) For new applicants follow step 3 through till 8 above. 

For all Employees
1) Put their contract into the respective envelopes at the end of the day and prepare them for each department director. 
2) Contact other directors if necessary

For Orientation
1) Plan the flow, location, and prepare the film
2) Organize name tags for pick up
3) Organize the schedule
4) Organize uniform pick up
5)Organize and arrange for food and refreshments
6) Organize attendance

For Firing Employees
1) File infraction forms provided from the director
2) Notify the employees
3) Terminate contract and indicate on database

For Employee Evaluations
1) Organize forms from different departments
2) Record which employee is eligible for rehire for the next year
3) Record who is eligible for promotions/desire position if they plan to return

I worked in CNE Casino this fall, and I found that was a very nice experience for me in Canda. 
I developed expertise in customer service and problem solving skills. Everyday, I faced numerous customers during work. I needed to :Greet customer and handle clients’ inquiries in a sensitive and professional manner.
 Assisted with colleagues to maintain a feel-good atmosphere while promoting service to customers.
 Responded to sensitive problems, provided the innovative solutions to unexpected issues, and maintained a pleasant working environment. 
There were many unexpected problems that challege me. For example, the customer needed to opened the winner hands without his last bet. According to the policy, the customer had no right to see the winner hands unless his betting in the last run. The dealler had opened the cards, and then the winner was angry. As the customer service supervisor, I needed to solve the problem flexibility and with professional manner. I talked to the winner softly, because the customer always be right even he has done something inappropriately. I explained to him the fault during the game, and let him know about the dealler was a fresher. As the old saying goes by, “ everyone make mistakes, no one is perfect." And with the nice manner and soft voice in persuading, the winner was cooling down and becoming understood. 
During the working of CNE Casino, there were numerous throny problems. As our customer service mission is " wish the customers have fun and feelling good, I tried my best to service customers in professional manner. And now, I developed very good customer service skills, built up the abilities to work under pressure and work well with others. Thank you CNE for giving me the opportunity to gained these excellent experience via working.

I can't speak to the entirety of the CNE, but where I worked (in exhibition hall), it was a poorly managed, unnecessarily stressful work environment. It's sessional work and it is clear they do NOT care about employees at all. For 18 days I worked 6 hours a day with 30 min breaks each day (which was typical). They tried to stagger our breaks, but ended up scheduling some people to break 30 min into their shift and then working the rest of the day nonstop. Management got angry when we tried to switch break shifts with each other, even though it had no impact on our ability to man the exhibit. There were 3 managers for the exhibits and they were constantly breathing down our necks about things beyond our control. It seemed like their jobs were highly redundant: why were there 3 of them for a one person job? I got berated for things other staff members did, or things that had nothing to do with us at all (such as lack of traffic in our particular exhibit). Pay was minimum wage and no overtime pay despite working 40+ hrs/week for the 18 days (only exception was 1.5 pay on labour day). Basically they know that it's sessional work and employees have nowhere to formally complain about working environment so will likely just suck it up and not come back the following year.

The CNE is full of excitement and new experiences. For the two weeks, millions of people from different parts of the city come to see the attractions and especially to eat the food. As a concession stand worker, I encountered so many different people and that was one of the most enjoyable parts of the job. The hardest part of the job was maintaining stock as our cooking equipment was not large enough to provide for the amount of customers we were getting. This meant we were selling much faster than the food could cook. A typical day at work consisted of long hours of moving around, roasting corn, cutting lemons, cleaning the stations, making change and serving hundreds of customers a day. There was never a time in the day where business was slow. If anything, as the day went on, the longer the line got. The management was great. They made sure everyone was doing their jobs and they always gave us encouragement. I learned several things from working at the CNE. I learned how important having patience is when it comes to customer service and how having a positive attitude can get you through the longest and roughest days.

Everyday felt like something new, the experience working at CNE is remarkable. I'd get to interact with various people at the lemonade stand and at breaks. The management at CNE was amazing, enthusiastic, fun and friendly just like my co-workers. I gained a lot of co-operative customer service experience, team member skills, leadership skills and supervision skills in food and hospitality. The hardest part of my job was dealing with the wasp occurrences at moments when lines became extremely long. However, we would deal with those situations by keeping our composure and continue providing fast and efficient service; we would also kill and capture wasps, and constantly clean the lemon to avoid further wasp occurrences. The best part about working at CNE was the fun feeling, enjoying the carnival experience with my enthusiastic co-workers while working. Everyday i would wake up ready to enjoy another day at work, it was definitely a moment of remembrance.

Working at the CNE was fast-paced later in the day rather than in the morning. Hearing customers compliment the foods we make and the service we gave made me proud to work there. A normal day of work would consist of arriving at work early and waiting for my shift. When it started, i'd clock in and take orders, I was a cashier. I'd tell the line workers which foods to make and how much of it. Customers were normally nice but there were a few rude ones, as expected in a workplace. Id normally work until closing. We'd then clean up the work area and count the money in the till for the next morning. Once all the work had been finished, we'd leave. I think my favorite part of working at the CNE was getting to know my coworkers better. It made working there allot more comfortable. My least favorite part would have to be counting the till at the end of the day. Since the money was for the next morning it'd bee majority change and less bills.

Working at one of the food tents during the Air Show Weekend at the Ex is a good experience learner. We helped with setting up the area, and my job was to help with preparing the hamburgers and hot dogs. There's already someone working the grill, but when the meats are cooked, we put the respective buns on the meats, put the burgers/hot dogs in paper holders, then give them to the customers. For me, the hardest part of the job is the clean up/set up. While it doesn't take a while, we have to do this for security measures since we're not 100% sure the security guards will watch the booths after closing. The best part of the job, is that we get to eat as much burgers and hot dogs as we want. Since it was only for the Air Show Weekend, we only worked about 3-4 days, but it was still a good experience in my book.

Like other students, I was so happy when I got hired at CNE. But then when I started my work, I've had some issues. #1 You have to stay for long hours. One time I experienced working starting from 9am to 11:30pm. #2 Some co-workers were not that helpful. SOME just chitchat and doing nothin. They're just chillin and not helping you. #3 Some of the managements were really strict about their rules. So make sure to follow it so you won't get in a big trouble. #4 Too much heat. #5 If I will be given a chance to be part of CNE? I would decline the offer and those things up there are the reasons why I wouldn't want to be part of it again. They charge you a big amount of money at your uniform and pass. They deduct it to your salary. Mine got deducted $200. Would you still wanna risk to work in here? Definitely not!

A typical day at work consist of meeting new people everyday. Even though it gets very busy throughout the day, there are always new and exciting things that are happening throughout the place that makes work a lot less stressful. My work consisted of cleaning and making sure that customers were satisfied with their experience at the CNE. My co-workers and supervisors were very comfortable to work with. Many times throughout the day it would get very busy and stressful, but my co-workers and i always work together to resolve the situation. The most enjoyable part of the job are the people and the energetic scenery.

Working at the Exhibition you are constantly in contact with new people everyday, especially children and parents. You have to be very welcoming and constantly working hard to make sure that everyone who comes by is enjoying their experience. A typical day at work is a 7 hour shift, starting either at 9:45AM, 1:00PM, or 4:00PM. The job I worked was a children's play area so there were a number of stations. You would work at one station for around 30 minutes to an hour and then rotate positions. There was also a half hour lunch break. The hardest part of the job was probably running, standing, and crouching for the entire shift. The most enjoyable part of the job was the atmosphere and the people you work with. I learned a lot about working with customers and children while at this position.
